In early 2011 the total installed capacity of NJSC "Energy Company of Ukraine" plants was 29764,0 MW (56% of installed capacity of Ukrainian plants).

Power is generated by 4 generating joint stock companies (PJSC «Dniproenergo», «Donbassenergo», «Zakhidenergo», «Centrenergo»). They operate 11 plants eguipped with 150-800 MW units. The capacity of unit TPPs totals 23,190 MW which amounts to 43,6% of GenCo's installed capacity in Ukraine.

Power generating companies of TPPs generate nearly one-third of power reguired to satisfy the demand of domestic consumers and ensure export supplies.

Hydropower facilities include Dnieper and the Dniester hydropower power systems merged into PJSC «Ukrhydroenergo» having an installed capacity of 5 007,6 MW and small hydroelectric power plants (83,4 MW). The installed capacity of hydropower and pumped- storage plants totals 5 091,0(9,6%).

Hydropower and pumped-storage plants generate over 6 % of nationwide power.
