GENERATION In early 2007 the total installed capacity of Energy Company of Ukraine's plants was 30,481.6 MW (58.3% of installed capacity of Ukrainian plants).
Heat is mainly generated by 4 generating joint-stock companies (Dniproenergo, Donbasenergo, Zakhidenergo, Centerenergo) operating 11 plants equipped with 150-800 MW units.
The total capacity of unit-type heat power plants is 23,090 MW that amounts to 44.2% of installed capacity of Ukrainian plants.
Heat generating companies generate around one-third of electricity required to satisfy the demand of domestic consumers and carry out export contracts.
Hydropower is generated by Dnieper hydropower plants and Dniester hydropower plant of Ukrhidroenergo having an installed capacity of 4,588.6 MW, Dniester pumped-storage plant (40.8 MW) and small hydropower plants (43 MW). The total installed capacity of hydropower and pumped-storage plants is 4,672.4 MW (8.9%).
Hydropower and pumped-storage plants generate up to 7% of electricity generated nationwide.
